BOZEMAN, Mont.- Each year in September Good Neighbor Day is celebrated nationwide. Bozeman city government, local businesses, and Montana State University gave out baked goods to honor neighbors.
“Good neighbor day can be recognized in many different ways,” said Bozeman Neighborhood Program Coordinator Tanya Andreasen. “Here at City Hall, we have bowls of chocolate set out and a little note that says ‘take two. One for your neighbor and one for yourself.’ and we hope that people around town can share Good Neighbor Day in any way that they feel is right for them.”
MSU fraternities and sororities thanked their neighbors by bringing around hot chocolate, cookies and coffee to the homeowners surrounding the Greek houses.
“I absolutely love getting to know my community, I love knowing my neighbors. I like love making friends all the time,” said Chi Omega memeber Sierra King. “I have been told I am like a social butterfly so it was really nice to say good morning to people as they are walking to class and giving them a warm beverage because it was really cold this morning.”
“It is a real thing that people are feeling isolated and disconnected in their communities and not just in Bozeman but everywhere, and Good Neighbor Day is an opportunity for us to intentional about us making a connection to people that live in and work around us,” said Andreasen.
The Pew Research Center reports most Americans know at least one of their neighbors but 3 in 10 know all or most of them.
