BOZEMAN, Mont. – Amy Canuch, MSU Community Relations, joins Chet to promote three upcoming events: Move-in Days (Aug. 22), Cat Walk (Aug. 24) and the “M” photo (Aug. 25).
Here’s a closer look at the events –
MOVE IN DAYS: Montana State University expects to welcome thousands of students into its residence halls starting Aug. 22, and the university is recommending the best routes to campus for this annual move-in period.
The annual move-in period officially starts Aug. 22, and more than 3,000 students will arrive that day alone, said James Tobin, assistant director of MSU Residence Life. He said students have been assigned check-in times between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on that day to minimize traffic issues and avoid bottlenecks at building elevators.
Students have been provided with instructions detailing routes to their designated residence halls. Maps of recommended routes for each hall are online at https://www.montana.edu/reslife/moving_in.html.

Kurt Blunck, MSU’s manager of parking services, advised MSU employees to arrive early and to avoid 11th Avenue south of the College Street roundabout on Aug. 22 to minimize congestion.
Three roads on campus will become temporary one-ways on Move-In Day. Twelfth Avenue in front of North and South Hedges will be a one-way heading south; Cleveland Street will be one-way heading east from Eighth Avenue; and, new this year, Seventh Avenue south of Cleveland will be a southbound one-way. (Seventh Avenue traffic will be directed across sidewalks to exit through the Roberts Oval onto Sixth Avenue.)
CAT WALK: Montana State University and the Downtown Bozeman Association will host the ninth annual Cat Walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, on Main Street in downtown Bozeman.
MSU President Waded Cruzado will join the Bobcat mascot Champ, the Spirit of the West Marching Band, members of the cheer squad, student-athletes and community members as they make their way down Main Street to create Bobcat buzz throughout the community. The group will visit businesses along the way, play the fight song and pass out Bobcat gear, treats for kids and game schedules.
The walk will begin at First Interstate Bank, located at Grand Avenue and Main Street, and move east down the south side of Main Street, stopping at several businesses along the way. Mid-way through the event, walkers will make a 30-minute stop at Soroptimist Park, located at Rouse Avenue and Main Street, for refreshments and for autographs from the fall and winter athletics teams.
Participants will then head west down the north side of Main Street, again stopping into businesses. The walk will end at Wells Fargo Bank, located at Grand Avenue and Main Street.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place rain or shine.
“M” PHOTO DAY: Montana State University will take its traditional freshman class photo at Bobcat Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Aug 25, and this year, anyone wishing to help welcome the class of 2022 is also invited to be in the photo.
Each year since 2014, the university has gathered its incoming students onto the field at the stadium, where they don special gold T-shirts and collectively form the shape of the iconic MSU “M” on the field for a photograph.
This year, MSU is also inviting current students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to be a part of the photo, posing in the stands to spell out “125” to celebrate the university’s 125th anniversary.
“We want our incoming students to know that the entire campus and Bozeman community care about them and want them to succeed,” said Chelsey Wilson, student engagement and leadership adviser for MSU’s Office of Student Engagement. “Inviting alumni, current students, community members, faculty and staff will demonstrate to our students that they are supported in their new environment.”
The photo will be featured on MSU’s homepage, on the university’s Facebook page and at commencement in 2022.
All ages are welcome to attend. MSU President Waded Cruzado, Champ, the Spirit of the West marching band and the cheer squad will be on hand. Participants will receive a limited-edition T-shirt, while supplies last. Those who wish to be in the photo must wear white.
Lineup begins at 5:30 p.m., and the photo will be taken promptly at 6:30. Parking is available in the West Stadium lot at the corner of Kagy Boulevard and 11th Avenue. Entry is through Gate 15.
