The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest is ready to let cabins and campgrounds be rented once again. Additionally, rental facilities like cabins will begin a phased reopening after May 15, 2020 based on seasonal availability and facility conditions. The target date for having Forest campgrounds open is May 22, 2020.
"I've gotten a lot of questions on Facebook on when things will open so I've been responding to those and there is a lot of interest for sure. Folks are anxious to get out and enjoy the outdoors and be in nature," says Aimee Cox, the Public Affairs Officer for the Helena Lewis & Clark National Forest.
The national forest wants to make everyone aware that rentals and lookouts will not be cleaned in between use. As in previous years, it is up to the renters to bring their own cleaning supplies, and to clean before and after use of the site.
“Some of it has to do with the remoteness of where these cabins are located and the fact that we are focused on keeping our developed campgrounds maintained," says Cox.
Those with existing cabin rental and lookout reservations will be notified if there are any changes. If you do take the opportunity and stay, Amiee Cox reminds everyone to maintain campfires.
"Definitely do not leave your campfire unattended at any time. If it's too hot to touch, it is too hot to leave," says Cox.
Trails and trailheads in the forest remain open with social distancing guidelines in place.
