HELENA -- As the calendar inches closer to Independence Day, fireworks stand operators are preparing for the busiest time of year, with sales in Lewis and Clark County opening on June 24.

Jeff Ullrey, a fireworks stand operator going into his fifth year of sales, said despite the economic hardship some are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like it could be a good year for fireworks sales.

“We're anticipating actually a very good year. Preseason sales in other parts of the country have have been up and people seem to be in the mood to celebrate," said Ullrey. "I've seen people come, they save their money all year long, and they have their budget and they spend it. So, I'm anticipating that that probably won't change at all this year.”

Fireworks are not legal to shoot inside Helena city limits, but are legal to shoot in Lewis and Clark County from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. from July 2 to July 6.
