Containment grows to 55% on Rattlesnake Fire near Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Mont. – Crews are continuing to make good progress in containing the Rattlesnake fire that’s burning outside of Hot Springs in Sanders County.

Fire managers say the blaze – which is now estimated to have burned 1,374 acres – is 55% contained. There are 162 people assigned to battle the fire.

It’s located 10 miles northeast of the town of Hot Springs on the Flathead Indian Reservation and is burning in grass and timber.

Fire managers report that crews will continue to use burnout operations to further secure fire lines as well as begin mop-up operations near the fire’s perimeter.

The Rattlesnake fire was first reported on August 30 th and there’s no word yet on what sparked the blaze.


The following roads are closed until further notice:

  • Rattlesnake Gulch Road
  • Sullivan 3000 Road
  • Deep Draw 4000 Road
  • Irvine (Elmo) 1000 Road
  • Irvine (Windy Gap) 1000 Road
