MISSOULA — The Missoula Police Department says they are prepared for any "civil unrest" this week that could come with the inauguration of President Elect Joe Biden.

MPD and the Missoula County Sheriff's Office put out a joint statement last week saying they have a plan in place to handle potential violence.

But after the riots at the Washington DC Capitol were organized partially online, MPD spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says law enforcement is monitoring social media.

He told MTN News that they are not aware of any credible threats of violence in Missoula.

"We're still paying attention. Those things are part of the discussions that we're having with Sheriff McDermott and his staff,” Sgt. Welsh said.

He added that anyone who hears of any credible threats should contact the Missoula Police Department.
