UPDATE (11:25 a.m.) - Bozeman police arrested a man suspected of firing the shots that injured two people early Thursday morning in downtown Bozeman.

Bozeman PD said in a press release there appears to have been "a confrontation between the male and the victims inside a nearby bar a short time before the shooting."

The department also said in a Facebook update that Mendenhall has now been re-opened.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the release, and anyone with information is asked to call the Bozeman Police Department at 582-2000.

(first report)
An overnight shooting behind Bar IX in downtown Bozeman sent two people to the hospital early Thurday morning, according to Bozeman police.

Deputy Police Chief Jim Veltkamp told MTN News dispatch received a report of shots fired behind the bar around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived to find two people shot with non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to the hospital and are being treated.

"It sound like this happened due to a prior contact with the victims inside a bar, so it's fair to say it was targeted at them specifically and it was not just a random event," Veltkamp said.

Veltkamp said there is no ongoing danger to the public. People are advised to avoid the Rouse/Mendenhall intersection and Mendenhall west of Rouse as officers investigate the scene Thursday morning.
