Update 1:20 p.m. — Lewis and Clark County Sheriff and Coroner Leo Dutton says Scott Marvin Steinbach died by suicide and is accused of killing his brother, Ty William Steinbach.

The autopsy report for Scott Steinbach from the State Crime Lab in Missoula indicated he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Monday afternoon, Dutton elaborated on the case.

"After Scott shot his brother Ty, he went and found some gasoline and poured it on his body in the house. Then lit the fire," said Dutton.

The parents of the brothers were in the home when the fire was lit. The mother attempted to extinguish the fire and received burns to her body.

A hired hand pulled Ty's body out of the fire so it was not burned beyond recognition, and extinguished the fire. They did receive some burn marks.

Dutton says Scott Steinbach died by suicide shortly after.

Both parents made it out of the house alive, and the mother was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, you can get help by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 9-8-8.

Original story — Lewis and Clark County Sheriff and Coroner Leo Dutton says one of the two deceased men found northwest of Wolf Creek and south of Augusta last week was murdered.

On Monday, Dutton identified the two men as 64-year-old Ty William Steinbach and 61-year-old Scott Marvin Steinbach. The two men were brothers.

According to Dutton, Ty died after being shot multiple times. Scott is believed to have been the shooter.

Scott Steinbach was found deceased on the property. The manner of his death is pending the results of an autopsy, which is expected to be released later on Monday.

On Thursday, dispatch received an initial call reporting two deceased men at a residence north of Highway 200 near L&C Road. Shortly after, they received another call about a house fire.

Scott is also accused of starting a fire at the residence on the property where the brothers' mother and father were at the time. The mother attempted to put out the fire. The mother sustained burns, was treated and released. The medical condition of the father has not been reported.
