Billings police seek public's help in identifying murder suspect

BILLINGS - The Billings Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect in the death of a man shot outside a church.

Manuel J. Martinez, 30, was shot multiple times on Nov. 30 at about 8:50 p.m. outside the Evangelical United Methodist Church near the corner of Broadwater Avenue and Fourth Street West.

The shooting was reported after a motorists told police he drove over the body as it was lying in the road. Police said they do not believe the driver was involved in the shooting.

In a press release issued early Thursday, police said Martinez was known to frequent the church where he was killed.

A possible suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot immediately after the shooting, police said. That person is described as a male, slender, around six feet tall and wearing a black hoody, dark pants, white shoes, carrying a backpack and wearing a hat, the press release states.
