Missoula County Sheriffs Office Sergeant Zach Sargent says that MSCO was called to a disturbance in the Delmar Apartments around 7 p.m. Friday night. Two men were fighting, as the residence asked the other one to leave. MSCO had noticed the man, David Alan Guinard, 50, had several warrants out for his arrest but, due to COVID-19 restrictions they could not arrest him.

After awhile, one of the sheriff's deputies saw Guinard driving back to the residence and pulled him over, telling him he could not go back. Guinard then proceeded to assault the officer by pinning the officer's arm and driving while the officer was still attached to the door of the vehicle.

The deputy managed to park the car, but not before Guinard tried to drive off between two patrol cars. Guinard fought custody and the officers sent their K9 units out, as well as tazing and OC-spraying Guinard. Due to Guinard’s behavior, the deputies brought him to a nearby hospital where Guinard continued to fight with medical staff; the staff had to sedate him.

MSCO was able to arrest Guinard Saturday morning on charges of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and negligent endangerment.
