Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter announced on Friday that one case of COVID-19 has been confirmed among the jail population.

Slaughter said in a news release that the inmate presented with symptoms a few days ago. Detention Center medical staff identified this person as symptomatic and isolated him.

The test was confirmed as positive on Thursday evening.

Slaughter says the City-County Health Department and Alluvion Health are on site and are working with detention center medical staff to get other inmates and staff tested.

The pod from which this individual came from has been identified and locked down for quarantine; Slaughter is not releasing the pod name due to facility security reasons.

According to Slaughter, the Detention Center Command Staff has activated its contingency plan and they are now in the operational phase of that plan.

As of Thursday morning (August 20), there have been 190 confirmed cases in Cascade County. Of those, 137 have recovered, and 48 are currently active. The City-County Health Department in Great Falls confirmed the fifth death in Cascade County on Tuesday morning.
