The Missoula City-County Health Department (MCCHD) is reporting 158 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, marking a record number of new daily cases reported in the county in a single day.
Four of the newly confirmed cases -- as well as 68 of the active cases -- are associated with the University of Montana.
The number of active hospitalizations in Missoula County has jumped has dropped from 41 to 39 and includes 19 county residents.
The number of active cases in the county has jumped from 1,105 to 1,183. MCCHD also reports a total of 2,741 recoveries.
There have now been a total of 3,964 confirmed coronavirus cases in the county including 40 COVID-19 related deaths.
The average of daily new cases per 100,00 in the past seven days has now risen from 67 to 77. The MCCHD goal is to bring that number down to 25/100,000 people for two consecutive weeks or more.
The Missoula City-County Board of Health updated the local COVID-19 restrictions on Thursday.
Missoula County residents can call 406-258-INFO weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to discuss COVID-19 information.

MCCHD is urging people to continue practicing health and safety behaviors:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.
- Keep at least 6 feet of safe space between you and others as the environment permits.
- Wear a face covering that's fully sealed around your nose and mouth.
- Remember that physical spacing does not replace face coverings - these are tools to be used together for maximum efficacy and safety.
