Butte woman facing homicide charges in death of 5-month-old daughter

A Butte woman is charged with felony negligent homicide in the Sept. 25th death of her 5-month old daughter.

A warrant was issued Audria Shannon Nickerson’s arrest at $250,000 bond in Butte Justice Court Thursday morning.

Toxicology found methamphetamine in Nickerson’s system at the time of the infant’s death.

Nickerson had been questioned by police after she was found in her parked vehicle with her dead 5-month old daughter on the morning of Wednesday Sept. 25, 2019.

The mother and child were found in a car that was parked at the intersection of Alaska and Granite Street.

The incident began about 8:40 a.m when police officers noticed a car parked in an area less than a block from the police station The car's engine was running, and the car doors were locked.

“Attempted to wake the female up and as they did that it appeared she was lying partially on an infant who was also in the vehicle. At that point they decided to break a window out of the passenger side of the vehicle and when they got to the infant, the infant was not breathing and had no pulse,” said Butte Sheriff Ed Lester.

Police also found the mother’s son sleeping in the backseat.
