BOZEMAN, Mont. – Spring in Montana means the return of potholes on many roads – including here in Gallatin County.
The county road department and administrator both say there is a lot of work left to do.
Just days after we reported on a large pothole on Durston Road near Gooch Hill Road, the county patched it up.
Holes like this one cause dicey and sometimes dangerous situations for drivers who either swerve around them or plow right through them.
The county says while road repairs are not prioritized, crews are going road by road, working on patching and fixing them like this.
Gallatin County administrator Jim Doar says it is a tough job for crews.
“It’s got to be like being on a hamster wheel,” Doar said. “It’s like every year, it’s the same thing but it is spring in Montana. As the frost comes out, the roads start to soften and as it melts, we get a lot of water and traffic over them, of course, compounds that problem so it’s just constant upkeep.”
The administrator says repairs are constantly getting done where resources and road conditions allow.
