BOZEMAN, Mont. – Today is Arbor Day.
That fact is giving many the idea to help celebrate conservation — by planting trees across parts of the city of Bozeman.
The city’s Forestry Division joined Bozeman Mayor Cyndy Andrus and all of the third-grade classes from Longfellow school to plant 25 trees in Langohr Park.
And they had fun doing it.
The planting did not stop there — with the help of Cashman Nursery and the Gallatin Garden Club, kids at Emily Dickinson Elementary School also got to plant a tree of their own.
Jerry Cashman from the nursery says it is an act these kids cannot just be proud of but learn from.
“Trees take a little effort or work to plant,” Cashman said. “That’s part of the experience and then, of course, the longevity of it all, that the trees will be here and they can come back to their school and look at the tree that was planted when they were in second grade when their 30 or 40 or older than that. They can come back and look at the future.”
Cashman added that trees help the community by reducing home cooling costs and removing harmful air pollutants, something the kids can remember helping with.
