BOZEMAN – As construction continues on Bozeman’s new high school, taxpayers can expect to see an increase to their taxes this fall.
In May 2017, voters passed the $125 million bond for the building of the new high school and renovations to the current one. Construction has been ongoing, but taxpayers haven’t had to pay yet.
The school district was able to use proceeds from the bonds to make the first payment but now they’re turning to the community.
According to Director of Business Services Mike Waterman, although the tax increase becomes a reality this November, it will be less than initially expected.
“At the time of the election, we estimated that there would be just short of a $7 per month, per $100,000 tax impact. Currently, we are just working with estimates but we’re looking at about $4.60,” Waterman said.
This increase will last 20 years for homeowners, but the school district believes it will be worth it.
“It’s going to be a source of community pride. It’s going to be a pretty impressive building. There’s going to be some changes and big improvements to Bozeman High as well, so it should be a good thing overall,” Waterman said.
The exact numbers of the increase will be finalized on August 13.
