BOZEMAN – There are 900 kids who are already a part of the Bozeman Public Library’s summer reading program. The kick-off to the program is scheduled for June 16.
“I want everyone. I mean I want every child who is learning to read or reading to be a part of the summer reading program,” Head of Children’s Services at Bozeman Public Library Cindy Christin said.
The Bozeman public library is focused on required school reading being done for the summer and relaxation reading kicking in.
Enjoying leisure reading can make a true impact on children and their education as their minds are still developing.
“The serious side of summer reading is kids that don’t read in the summer fall back, they fall behind and if that happens every single summer that they are falling behind then at some point in like high school they’re years behind and they just don’t catch up,” Christin said.
Christin also said as children continue to read over the summer, it is an opportunity for them to explore their own minds.
“So reading takes you to the big cities, and it takes you to other countries and it takes you to other times and so reading for kids in the summer and for adults in the summer is a way to really explore the world,” she said.
Along with all of the reading that will be happening, there will be other fun activities too.
“It’s really fun this year; we’re doing Libraries Rocks so we’re doing a lot of music, concerts for the whole family and then on Fridays we’re doing club rock, which is a music-based program, very hands on for school-age kids,” Christin said. “We will still do storytime and arts and crafts for preschoolers and programs for teens and adults so it’s sort of an all age’s libraries rock summer reading program.”
Programs and plenty of reading will continue throughout the summer at the Bozeman Public Library.
