Expect to pay a bit more if you use the campground and day use sites in Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and Georgetown Lake vicinity.

According to a press release, the Pintler Ranger District made changes to the concessionaire campground and day use site management permit issued to Big Sky Recreation Company, LLC (BSRC) in 2017.

Starting Memorial Day Weekend, day use fees will be implemented by BSRC at Red Bridge, Grassy, Philipsburg Bay, and Piney Boat Launches in order to provide continued maintenance and improvements to the site which includes general cleaning, maintenance, purchasing of supplies and for staff.

“Through the fee implementation we and Big Sky Recreation will be able to make improvements to the site,” said Cameron Rasor, District Ranger.

Improvements to boat launches in 2017 included repairs to the boat ramps and shoreline protection.  Future work includes picnic areas, shoreline protection, and signing. Implementation of fees at the boat launches and other recreation sites across the forest were identified in a 2008 Recreation Facility Analysis that made recommendations to address deteriorating facilities, increased user demand, and program costs.

Beginning May 26 and continuing through September fees at the Boat Launches will be $5/day per vehicle.  A season pass will available for $50 from BSRC Campground Hosts at Piney, Lodgepole, and Philipsburg Bay Campgrounds.  Senior and Golden Age passes will be honored for day use fees. Fees will not be charged fall through spring when the concessionaire does not manage recreation sites around Georgetown Lake.

Additional vehicle fees of $3 will also be charged at Lodgepole, Piney, Philipsburg Bay, Spring Hill, and Cable Mountain beginning Memorial Day weekend.
