1 person dead in crash between Great Falls and Vaughn

One person has died in a two-car crash on I-15 between Great Falls and Vaughn.

The driver of a GMC Sonoma was traveling significantly slower than the driver of the Nissan Xterra; the Nissan rear-ended the GMC.

The GMC went off the road and rolled, partially ejecting and killing the driver.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The name of the person has not yet been released.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

The Montana Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.

We do not yet know if any criminal charges will be filed.


(1st Report, 11:36 a.m.) Emergency crews are at the scene of a crash along I-15 between Great Falls and Vaughn.

The crash happened near mile marker 284, and at least two and possibly three vehicles are involved.

The crash was reported to the Montana Highway Patrol at 11:32 a.m. on Sunday.

Initial reports indicate that at least one person has been injured.

Responding agencies include the MHP, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Vaughn Fire, Great Falls Emergency Services, and a Mercy Flight helicopter.

Southbound traffic is being diverted at this time.
