LIBBY – A 63-year-old male died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an extensive manhunt Wednesday in northwest Montana.
Lincoln County Undersheriff Brandon Huff tells KPAX that numerous agencies searched for about six hours for a man who was said to be armed and suicidal.
Huff says the man was driving a military-style vehicle and caused damage to the Happy’s Inn.
Authorities issued a Code Red Alert for an area near Happy’s Inn between McGinnis Meadows and the Flathead County line.
Residents were asked to stay in their homes and lock their doors.
Late Wednesday evening, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office lifted the Code Red Alert, saying in a Facebook post that the situation “had been resolved.”
Officials with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol, K9 units, and the Two Bear Air helicopter out of Flathead County all assisted in the search.
