BELGRADE – Runway resurfacing that will temporarily shut down afternoon departing flights started Wednesday at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.
The airlines have had to shuffle some of the afternoon departures to accommodate the 2,000 passengers per day traveling through the airport. Crews will be working to resurface the runway from 12:30 to 11 p.m. on the airport’s main runway.
Despite the disruption to afternoon and evening departures, the airport will remain open to general aviation on its secondary runway. Airport director Brian Sprenger says the resurfacing takes place about every 15 years and is a necessary project for the airport and passengers.
“At airports, we take it very seriously and we rehabilitate runways. In this case, it’s about every 15 years. It’s for aviation safety as well as making sure we’re providing the best possible surface for landing and taking off aircraft.” Sprenger said
Airport officials say they will have the resurfacing done by May 19.
