BOZEMAN – Homeowners living in Montana State University’s residential district might see more cars parked in front of their houses.
Bozeman is considering changing the residential parking district’s rules to allow vehicles to park for up to two hours for free.
Currently there is no parking allowed in the residential district unless the vehicle has a permit. The permits cost homeowners who live in the area $25 for each vehicle. These homeowners would still have to pay this fee each year. Cars could park in the residential area for two hours at no cost Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Jeff Musselman lives on South 6th Street and believes allowing free parking will only cause more problems for residents.
“If they open this up they are just gonna flood this neighborhood with more vehicles, more traffic, more noise, more danger, because of the nature of having more vehicles with more and more kids and I think it is great that MSU is growing. I think that a robust university does a lot for the community but the fact that they are running out of parking isn’t our problem,” said Musselman.
The city started to talk about residential parking permits last night but postponed making a decision at a later date.
