Landon Dupree, 32, of Poplar was sentenced to more than five years in prison, four years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment on April 18 for dealing methamphetamine on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.
According to the Department of Justice, Dupree was arrested on an outstanding warrant in January of 2017 for violating the terms of his supervised release, drugs and drug paraphernalia on his person.
In July of 2017, the Montana Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle Dupree was driving and after a searching the vehicle, found a digital scale, meth, and syringes.
The DOJ stated that Dupree was a mid-level distributor selling meth on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.
"Methamphetamine is destroying lives, breaking up families, and undermining tribal cultures," Federal prosecutors noted in a sentencing memorandum. "Dupree’s conduct contributed directly to this problem. He provided meth to people needing a quick fix and seemingly fails to understand the broad implications of his criminal conduct."
The case was investigated by the FBI, Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice, and the MHP among other agencies.
