BOZEMAN – Montana State University held its 18th Annual Medical History Conference of the West on Friday at the Museum of the Rockies.

This year the conference focused on opioids and addiction. MSU’s WWAMI Medical Education Program holds this conference each year. Director Martin Teintze says this event is specifically for MSU medical students who will have to write prescriptions in the future. He says although prescription drugs can be misused they are a critical drug in treating chronic pain

“They are also an important drug for the management of pain that physicians need to be able to use. So we have to find the right balance between using it responsibly and not allowing it to become an addictive drug,” he said.
