The 2020 Governors Cup race was canceled due to the pandemic. However, that didn't stop racers from completing the course.

These racers are completing the 2020 Governor's Cup marathon, despite the cancellation of the event. Both racers wanted to compete for their own reasons.

Luke Denherder represents the Queen City Cancer Foundation, a non-profit to financially help those with cancer. Luke has gone through cancer three times and dedicated his race to all those fighting cancer.

The day of the Governor’s Cup also marks Chase Cunnigham's 35th birthday. He wanted to complete his first marathon as a gift to himself.

"Signed up for it, and then the race got canceled because of COVID-19. I was halfway through training and decided to keep it going and do my own race," says Chase.

His family surprised him with a medal at the end of the marathon course which started and ended at his home.

“No Governor’s Cup medal but I think this one is even better,” says Chase as he finishes the race and admires the family’s medal to him.

Chase ran 26.3 miles (a marathon is 26.2 miles) in just under five hours. Luke completed the marathon in five and a half hours.
