Paul David “Butch” Creager
Mar. 18, 1944 - Dec. 2, 2019
Paul David “Butch” Creager was the youngest of three children born to Marjorie (DeVoe) and Paul Creager of Hackettstown, New Jersey. A car accident when he was 17 years old left Paul in traction for months and ultimately shaped much of his life. But his dashed hopes of college football never diminished his dreams of traveling, seeing the world, and living an active life. He was a barber by trade, a passionate amateur golfer, and a devoted husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather.
Paul and his wife of 39 years, Catherine Creager, traveled much of Europe and the United States. He was thrilled to have played many of the premiere golf courses in our country. He had a deep appreciation for the epic nature he experienced during those travels: the grandeur of the Alps, the vastness of the Grand Canyon, and the beauty of the countrysides (but who are we kidding, he really just loved the golf courses!).
A devoted husband and father, Paul was glad to be able to retire to California to be nearer to his daughter, Theresa, and stepdaughter, Jeanne, and their families.
Paul’s final move to Montana brought him back to fond memories of his childhood on his mother’s family farm in New Jersey.
Paul will be remembered for his quick friendly smile, his generous spirit, and his easy-going nature. The courage he needed to face his last long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia are a testament to his character. We love and miss him.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff and volunteers from Livingston HealthCare Hospice for their excellent care and support to Paul and the entire family for these last seven months.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Malcolm “Skip” Creager, and sister, Virginia Beth Winter. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Creager; daughter, Theresa Creager Pasarnikar (Sach); stepdaughters, Theresa Allgood Suis (Jeffrey) and Jeanne Allgood Gaisford (Tyler); grandchildren, Allison Suis, Connor Pasarnikar, Ivy Gaisford, and Will Gaisford; and an amazing extended loving family.
A private family service was held in Bozeman on Dec. 3. A public memorial is being planned.
