Oklahoma City, OK (KOCO) — Eight people, including four children, escaped an early morning house fire in southeast Oklahoma City.
According to the fire department, crews responded just before 6:30 a.m. to a report of a house fire near Southeast 15th Street and Missouri Avenue. Eight people had just escaped the burning building when fire officials arrived.

Officials said all eight people were taken to hospitals to be treated for burns and cuts. One of the children began screaming after seeing the fire, and that woke up the family, according to the fire department.
“They are extremely lucky. They were close enough to the fire that they had second-degree burns on different areas of their body, whichever area was facing the fire. And then they had some cuts from breaking glass trying to get out. So I would say that they were less than two minutes away from some of them being in very bad condition,” Battalion Chief Mike Paschal said.
Officials said there were no working smoke alarms in the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
