Valley (KPTM) — First responders with the Nebraska Unified Command spent Friday evacuating people out of Valley and Waterloo.
But, as the day went on, the Elkhorn River kept rising. More roads, and routes of escape, were forced to close.
Officials had to turn to helicopters.
Fox 42 KPTM caught several families being hoisted to safety.
Unified Command did stop non-emergency evacuations in the Valley and Waterloo areas at 9 p.m. Friday night.
Crews say anyone not rescued by then needs to shelter in place until morning.
Rescues will start again at sunrise.
If anyone has a medical emergency, they can call 911 for an overnight rescue.
