Calverton Park (St. Louis Post-Dispatch) — A Ferguson man shot a woman 14 times at her North County home after they argued over the paternity of one of their children, police say.
Perry Green, 24, was ordered held on $500,000 bail on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Demetria Howard, who was found shot in her Calverton Park home Sunday.
Green admitted shooting Howard, saying they argued over the paternity of a child and then struggled over his gun, according to charges. Green told police he picked up bullet casings from the scene. Later he threw the casings and the gun out the window of a vehicle, charges say.
Howard, 23, was found dead with gunshot wounds in her home on Grether Avenue about 12:55 a.m. Sunday after police were called to check on her.
The Major Case Squad was called in to lead the homicide investigation. Surveillance images showed Green and Howard entering the home together, then Green leaving alone after the time Howard is believed to have been killed, according to charging documents. The images also showed him entering the home again later with another person. It wasn’t clear from court documents who that person is, nor is it clear whether he or she committed a crime.
Green lives in the 800 block of Elliot Avenue, according to court documents, and had previously been arrested for domestic violence involving Howard.
