Portland, OR (KPTV) — Thieves broke into a chocolate shop in Northeast Portland, causing damage and stealing several items.
Woodblock Chocolate Co-Owner Charley Wheelock says on Friday he found its double doors entrance kicked in, as he tried to figure out what happened at his shop.
“It didn’t look like anything was stolen everything was in pretty good shape,” Wheelock said. “But then later in the day as we eased into the day we realized that certain things had been stolen.”
A handful of chocolates were gone, as well as two dollars from the tip jar.
The thieves also stole an envelope with the shop’s keys as well as a company credit card.
Wheelock says whoever stole that card bought $700 worth of items at Fred Meyer and Safeway.
Despite these hits to the business Wheelock is able to find some humor in it.
“I mean my first thought honestly was that somebody had run out of chocolate and I get it, you know they needed chocolate so they broke in and got the best chocolate in town,” Wheelock said.
Wheelock says he feels safe in the neighborhood but what happened to their business certainly makes him more concerned about security measures for the shop and the safety of his baristas.
Here’s what he has to say to the thieves.
“First I would say good choice on the chocolate, second I would say thank you for not destroying the place, and third I would say please figure something else out cause’ this cost me a fortune,” Wheelock said.
Wheelock says he filed a report with the Portland Police Bureau.
He says he’s changed the locks and the shop has a security system.
The shop is also looking into a possible gate at the front entrance.
