Bakersfield, California (KERO) — The Girl Scout Troop 8035 has been working on hand-made blankets to give to the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center (CBCC), to distribute to their patients who are battling cancer. The troops created care packages in honor of the Girl Scouts founder, Juliette Gordon Low, who passed away from breast cancer in 1927.
“They are made with love from the Girl Scouts and fleece,” said Janessa Lopez, a Cadette with the Girl Scout Troop 8035.
With the help of Frost Sales a trucking company, the troop received $200 to make the care packages. The bags include, a large hand-made blanket, hand-made scarves, gloves and Chapstick.
Heather Hafen, mom of Brownie Girl Scout seven-year-old Crystal said she understands the importance of blankets, after she saw a family member through their chemo treatment.
“They get really cold easily and then with the Chapstick they get chapped lips. So we thought it would be really good to give them something, to keep them warm while they are going through chemo therapy,” said Hafen.
The troop’s next event is the day after Thanksgiving, where the girls are going to make breakfast for the Ronald McDonald House.
