MODESTO, Calif. (KCRA) — Modesto police are searching for two suspects after officers said three people broke into an 86-year-old woman’s home.

Investigators said the home invasion happened early Sunday morning. Police said the suspects assaulted the woman and stole money and valuables.

All of the suspects are male and one had a gun, police said. Officers arrested one of the suspects, a juvenile, shortly after the break-in.

“We heard the window breaking, so we came out and didn’t see anything,” said Philipe Gamez, who lives next door. “My neighbor ran over, like five minutes later, to my house for help. Those guys were inside with a gun and we protected our neighbor.”

Police said the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has been released.

“She seems to be fine,” neighbor Ron Lloyd said. “The cops said she got roughed up pretty good.”

Lloyd said officers checked his home security cameras, hoping to get a good look at the suspects, but they said nothing was there. He said it’s been a while since a crime like this has happened in the neighborhood.

“This neighborhood’s always been rough,” Lloyd said. “We kind of thought it had quieted down, but it seems like it’s getting worse.”

Anyone with information about the home invasion robbery is urged to call Modesto police.
