ALBUQUERQUE, N.M (KOAT) — A missing dog has brought two Albuquerque families together. KOAT reported on Odin, the 3-year-old pit bull terrier, who was possibly given to the wrong family by Animal Humane New Mexico.
Both families met up Sunday night for a happy reunion and before Odin got out of the car, his original family said they were anxious to see him for the first time since May. For the family who had been taking care of him, emotions were both sad and happy.
What were once tears of sadness, turned into tears of joy. Odin was reported missing in May, but now he is back with his original family.
“Thought you weren’t going to cry,” Guadalupe Ramirez said to her son and daughter.
But Odin not only has one family now, he has two. Joe Hernandez adopted Odin in the spring.
“I said ‘Sure I’ll take a look at him,’ and as soon as I saw him, I was like ‘Yeah I’ll take him,'”Hernandez said.
But soon after he started taking care of Odin, he went missing, and when Animal Humane New Mexico found him, they realized he had been missing since May from his first family.
“It was the right thing to do, to get a hold of her and I talk to {my son} and the first thing he said was ‘We need to give him back,'” Hernandez said.
But the emotional good bye won’t be forever. Odin’s original owners said they’d be happy to let the Hernandez family come see him and even doggy sit from time to time. They also said they renovated their backyard in hopes that Odin won’t escape again.
