TULSA, OK (KJRH) — Tulsa fire cadets turn up the heat on their training, by experiencing flashovers in a live burn scenario.
“I expected to be quite hot and it lived up to the expectation,” said Tanner DiMarco, a Tulsa fire cadet.
What better way to study the pattern on fire, than to come face to face with it.
“It’s just really interesting and a good training practice to see step by step how it works,” said DiMarco.
Two Works For You geared up alongside Tulsa fire cadets during their flashover training, where they learn to recognize the signs of fire evolving from growth stage, to fully engulfed.
“There’s a big challenge for us to train and make sure that we do more than just have a water and a hose and squirt it on the fire,” said Chuck French, District 1 Chief with the Tulsa fire department.
During a flashover, temperatures climb over 1,000 degrees, which is not survivable for more than a few seconds.
“There’s a lot they’re going to see, there’s a lot they’re going to do and mentally they have to be pretty strong,” said French.
You may think they’re crazy to sit inside a burning structure, but to them it could save their life, and yours.
“I’ve always had the desire to help my fellow man and this is my best way of doing so,” said DiMarco.
