Atlanta, GA (WGCL) — If you are a little tired of hearing about Georgia’s pursuit of Amazon’s second headquarters as a Golden Goose for Atlanta’s future, here is a bit of home-grown relief.

Mid-sized Atlanta companies are quietly providing high growth and high pay for the region, far outpacing some of the largest in the country.

More than big businesses, or little upstarts, Atlanta’s healthy mid-sized businesses are hiring and creating economic benefits at a higher rate.

Tech companies lead this unusual pack of growing businesses. Showing them some extra love is at the heart of a new Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce program.

It’s called Backed By ATL, pushing high-tech, fast-growing businesses you may never have heard of.

The first seven companies launching the program last year already created 1,435 jobs and generated $270 million in economic output.

Urjanet is a good example. Incubated at Georgia Tech, this company grabs utility bills from around the world, compares them, and helps customers shave energy costs.

Backed by ATL helped Urjanet find tax breaks on office space, share mentoring ideas with bigger companies and leverage good advice on the most competitive issue for high tech companies: hiring the best tech talent.

Other companies in the initial seven are making money from Cybersecurity 7, Fintech, Supply Chain and E-commerce.

Nolan Transportation Group (NTG) provides third-party logistical services for 15,000 customers in North America.

Patientco helps health systems address out-of-pocket challenges for patients with a superior billing experience.

Pindrop creates new standards for security in voice identification.

SalesLoft uses the sales engagement cloud to personalize sales communication.

Springbot puts customers’ essential marketing tools into a single dashboard.

TruRating lets businesses gain customer feedback and insights to assist in business decision making.
