Mobile, AL (WALA) — Charlie McNichol, the director of Mobile County Communications District, issued a statement following his arrest early Friday morning.

According to officials, McNichol was arrested at 12:35 a.m. Friday by Spanish Fort police for public intoxication.

Spanish Fort Police Chief David Edgar said the arrest took place on Highway 31 and Highway 90. According to Edgar, McNichol was in possession of his vehicle, however, he was not charged with DUI.

Edgar told FOX10 News that the arresting officer has the discretion to determine the charges. At the time this was written, Edgar had not spoken with his arresting officer.

McNichols issued the following statement:

“I am embarrassed. This was a mistake that I made. I make no excuse for my poor judgement. I have had some life stressors with health issues recently, and I obviously did not handle this well. I will seek assistance and work through this terrible event.”

McNichols’ bond was set at $400 which he made.
