PHOENIX (KNXV) — A Phoenix park ranger and neighbors helped a man and his dogs escape a house fire on Monday, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Captain Kenny Overton said neighbors heard an explosion and reported seeing smoke and flames from a house near 14th Street and Hatcher Road. They called 911.

The park ranger, who was not identified, was reportedly first to the scene and “banged on the doors of the house to get the occupant out,” said Overton in an email.

Everyone was able to get out of the house OK, he said.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames “at bay” and prevented them from spreading to nearby homes. Pictures provided by the Phoenix Fire Department showed the right side of the house heavily charred.

It was not immediately known what caused the explosion nor the fire.
