Maricopa, AZ (KTVK) — Phoenix police say an 18-year-old with no driver’s license was behind the wheel Tuesday night during a crash that left a 16-year-old girl dead.
Emily Vargas was killed in the accident.
Driver Abraham Vargas was arrested. It’s not clear if or how the two are related.
On September 18 at around 2:45 p.m., Phoenix police responded to a serious injury collision at the intersection of 24th Street and University Drive.
Police say a 2006 Ford F150 truck, southbound on 24th Street, turned left in front of a 2018 Dodge Ram.
The force of the collision caused extensive damage and injury to Emily, who was seated in the rear seat of the F150.
The vehicles also collided with a second Dodge Ram.
Emily was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
All drivers remained on scene.
Neither speed, nor impairment are suspected.
The driver of the F150, Abraham Vargas, was booked into jail on one count of “causing a fatal collision without a drivers license.
