SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KERO) — A federal judge has ruled that a California law that banned licensed gun dealers from advertising handguns is unconstitutional.
California Penal Code section 26820 prevented licensed gun dealerships from putting up signs that advertised the sale of handguns. The law did not apply to advertisement of shotguns and rifles. According to federal Judge Troy Nunley, the law violated gun dealerships’ First Amendment rights.
The ruling stems from the Tracy Rifle and Pistol v. Becerra lawsuit.
