Kansas City, Missouri (KCTV) — Police are investigating after two people were shot at a grocery store in Kansas City.

The shooting happened at about 5 p.m. on Monday at the Sun Fresh Market at 31st and Wabash.

At least two people were shot. Their injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened inside the store.

One employee who works at the store told KCTV5 News that someone started shooting and that everyone, both employees and shoppers, was ducking and trying to run to safety. Many people tried to rush children away from the gunfire.

That person said a fellow employee was hit by gunfire. She described that employee as being young.

“We heard the gunshots, it was a good six or seven that we heard,” said Sabrina Bradford. “I said, ‘Oh my God, they are shooting over there.’ That’s when my boss pulled me and we ducked down and everybody got to running. I ran into the cooler.”

She said several cashiers felt the bullets whizzing by them.

This shooting was not considered an active shooter situation.

At the time of publication, no suspects had been taken into custody and there was no suspect description.
