Covington, GA (Rockdale Citizen) — A woman charged in the Tuesday shooting of her 2-year-old daughter is being held under suicide watch at the Newton County Detention Center.
“She’s under close supervision as far as being a risk to herself,” said Capt. Keith Crum on Thursday.
Jennifer Michelle Bellah, 31, was arrested Tuesday at her home on Brown Thrasher Run in northern Newton County after she allegedly called 911 and told the dispatcher that she had just shot her child. Officials received the call at about 5:53 p.m. When they arrived at the home Bellah shared with her mother and step-father, they found Natalya Bellah dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and recovered a handgun and spent shell casings at the scene.
Bellah was interviewed and investigators found probable cause to charge her with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Bellah is believed to have been alone in the home with her daughter when the incident occurred.
Crum said the NCSO has had no previous dealings with Bellah. Her booking sheet lists her as self-employed, but Crum said he did not believe she had a regular job. Crum said the child’s father has not been part of the investigation.
