Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Murdering Girlfriend with Machete

    Pocola, OK (KFSM) — Police have captured the man accused of murdering a woman in Pocola with a machete, according to investigators for the Pocola Police Department.

The suspect Steven Asher, 31, is being held at the Pocola Police Department for questioning.

Police confirmed to 5NEWS that the two were in a relationship. Authorities say the incident started as a fight between Millar and Asher, which quickly escalated from there.

Millar and Ashar lived together and have a child, according to investigators.

The machete police believe was used in the murder was recovered at the crime scene.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol began investigating after finding Millar on Fuller Road about 8:15 a.m. Monday (Aug. 27).

Local schools were put on lockdown as a precaution after the body was found, according to the Capt. Troy German with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Pocola High School Principal, Randy Ragland, told 5NEWS only parents and legal guardians were allowed to pick up students at the Pocola schools while the lockdown was underway. Students riding the bus were sent home after Ashar was captured.

Bevil said there just happened to be extra law enforcement in the area today to attend training exercises.
