Las Vegas, NV (KVVU) — A Las Vegas Valley woman said she is traumatized after escaping her car that had burst into flames. She said she had her car’s engine replaced due to a recall this year. Now, she’s worried that may have been the cause.
“If we had been anywhere else, that could have been our casket, we literally could have been dead,” a teary-eyed Brandy Wright said.
Brandy Wright said she and her husband had just pulled into the driveway after picking up dinner on Friday, when they saw their neighbor frantically waving them down.
“They were pointing as we were backing into the driveway and I slowed down. We were getting ready to open the garage to pull in.”
She said she saw the smoke and immediately rolled out of the car.
“Literally, between slowing down and crawling out of the car, the car was ignited in full flames,” Wright said.
She said she had to leave her phone, purse and keys in the car because it took only seconds for the flames to engulf it. Everything happened so fast and there were no lights or warnings in the car.
“I was afraid that if we were anywhere else, there’s no time. If we would have had my son in the backseat, I don’t know that I would have had time to get him out of the car if I barely had time to get myself,” Wright said.
Wright said in January, her car’s engine was replaced because of a recall. Now, she’s wondering if that’s what caused the fire.
“I just want people to know that this is real, this is dangerous, this is potentially life threatening to people.”
The manufacturer was reportedly investigating the cause of the fire. They have not responded to FOX5’s requests for comment.
