PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) — The Portland Police Bureau and the Multnomah County Health Department are warning the public about counterfeit prescription drugs that are being illegally sold.
PPB said the drugs are being sold illegally in the metro area, around the state and online. The drugs are being marketed and sold as prescription drugs such as Xanax, Oxycodone, Alprazolam and others.
The Oregon State Crime Lab analyzed samples of the drugs seized by police. The results “showed that the counterfeit drugs often contain extremely potent substances that can and have caused overdose deaths.”
The public is warned not to purchase medication from black market dealers or from unlicensed distributors.
PPB said health officials identified more than 180 opioid overdose deaths in 2017 and the same pace continues in 2018.
