Honolulu, HI (KITV) — A young boy found wandering the streets of Oahu’s west side, wearing nothing but his underwear with no parents in sight.
The child was found walking along Hakimo Road in Nanakuli Tuesday night. Hours after he says he was kicked out of a house in Makaha.
A family member says the boy is roughly seven-years-old and the relative worried about his well-being.
The boy told the person who found him “he was lost” but later shed more light on what happened.
To protect him, Island News chose not to show his face or name him.
A woman asked not to be named but says she fed him and the two dogs he was with, bathed him and found him something to wear. Then she called 911.
Honolulu police picked him and the dogs up and tracked-down his relatives.
“My heart goes out to that family. You know what I mean, and that takes much love and Aloha for see that,” Patrick Chock, uncle said.
Chock is thankful his nephew is safe but he’s still in disbelief.
“Just to see him alone is you know in the underwear is just, that’s just mind-blowing,” Chock said.
Chock says the kid’s been living with guardians but details of why he was supposedly kicked out are not clear.
Uncle is worried about the boy’s well-being now, more than ever.
“I know for a fact they don’t feel loved,” Chock said.
Child Welfare Service cannot comment on specifics of the case but issued this statement:
“In assessing C-W-S involvement, we approach each situation to understand what safety or risk factors may be present for a child in a given home. But, it’s important to note that a lack of housing alone would not necessarily warrant CWS involvement. We would look to the entire family’s situation and their ability to care for a child safely in whatever setting they’re living, whether permanent housing or otherwise…”
Chock hopes this is a wake-up call.
“He doesn’t deserve that like at all. No kid deserves that,” he said.
Island News just heard back from the woman who found the boy, who says:
“My child and I did what we felt was right at moment to help this little boy. We are not sure what the true story was that lead him into that situation. But we are glad we were there to assist him and his two dogs till the authorities arrived. We hope and pray that he is in a safe place now and that he is receiving lots of love and care….”
Honolulu Police told Island news they are looking into this case.
