Newport, OR (KPTV) — Coast Guard crews reported a 700-gallon diesel spill in Yaquina Bay in Newport Tuesday morning.

The spill occurred after a commercial fishing vessel left a fuel transfer pump on, Coast Guard officials say.

Local responders deployed containment booms and applied sorbents. Coast Guard oil spill responders from Sector Columbia River’s Incident Management Detachment in Portland arrived on scene at 11 a.m. to oversee cleanup efforts.

NWFF Environmental has been contracted to finish cleaning up the spill.
