BOZEMAN – A new Pacific storm has moved onshore in the Pacific NW and should start to dive to the SE this evening. The storm will clip western and SW Montana producing mostly mountain snow showers Friday into Saturday morning.
Best chance for accumulating snow should be above 6,000’ but there is a slight chance lower valleys could see a few rounds of light snow. Be prepared for wintry travel conditions especially over mountain passes locally.
The other side effect of this pattern will be stronger surface winds in high wind prone areas along the Rocky Mountain front, Livingston area, and east of the divide in SW Montana. Localized areas of blowing snow and lower visibility will also produce hazardous travel impacts Thursday night through Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service has a WIND ADVISORY up for the Livingston area 5 pm Thursday to 5 pm Friday.
Surface winds will be increasing between 30 to 40 mph and at times peak gusts to 60 mph are possible.
Snow accumulations above 6,000’ could be in the 2”-5” range for most mountain passes and heavier snow is possible across Eastern Idaho and Western Wyoming.
