BOZEMAN – High-pressure is controlling our overall weather pattern this week and should help temperatures climb back up into the upper 80s to mid-90s by Wednesday.

Most Pacific storms are forced to ride up and over the ridge pattern over the western U.S. this week.

The weather pattern is looking more favorable for late afternoon thunderstorms to develop later this week. This is a classic summertime weather pattern. High-pressure building over the western U.S. and monsoon moisture lifting northward under the ridge.

This pattern is always a tricky one as these thunderstorms can either produce heavy rainfall or they can produce more lightning than rainfall. Either way these afternoon thunderstorms could lead to new fire starts later this week.
