High impact weather event Wednesday into Thursday

BOZEMAN – Strong pacific storm will bring periods of moderate to heavy snow and stronger surface winds to Idaho, Montana and Wyoming tonight through Thursday. This storm will have a major impact on travel especially for those mountain passes on the MT/ID/WY state lines.

There are numerous WINTER STORM WARNINGS up tonight through Thursday morning.

High Wind Advisory and a High Wind WARNING are up now through Wednesday afternoon for the Livingston and Big Timber areas. Wind gusts 45 to 65 mph are possible.

High profile vehicles are detoured through Livingston off of I-90 to bypass a hazardous crosswind area of I-90.

High Wind Highlights

Winter Storm WATCH is up for Beaverhead, Madison and Gallatin counties tonight through Thursday morning.

This winter storm watch will be upgraded by the National Weather Service later today to either a Winter Storm Warning or a Winter Weather Advisory.

Right now (could change) the areas that will be impacted greatly along the MT/ID state line from Monida to Big Sky south of that line.

Snow and wind will have a major impact on travel with heavy snow at times and wind gusts over 30 mph producing areas of blowing and drifting snow.

BOZEMAN: LOW: 19°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 31°. Cloudy and not as cold. SW winds tonight 10 to 20 mph with stronger gusts in wind prone areas. Wednesday look for scattered snow throughout the day with accumulations likely by Thursday morning. SW winds will be stronger Wednesday 15 to 30 mph and gusts to 40 mph are possible which could produce areas of blowing and drifting snow. Snow and wind will impact Wednesday evenings commute and Thursday mornings commute.

BUTTE: LOW: 14°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 31°. Mostly cloudy Tuesday evening with scattered snow by early morning. SW winds 15 to 25 mph are possible. Scattered snow is likely Wednesday with 1″-3″ of snow by afternoon. SW winds 10 to 20 mph. Snow is likely Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

DILLON: LOW: 16°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 32°. Increasing snow overnight and wind. South winds 15 to 25 and gusts to 40 mph. Areas of blowing snow is likely. Scattered snow is possible by morning but there is a better chance for snow and windy Wednesday into Thursday. Heavy snow accumulations are likely for nearby mountains and passes and travel will be impacted.

WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: 7°; HIGH WEDNESDAY: 23°. Heavy snow and gusty winds will impact West Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park and Island Park, ID tonight through Thursday morning. SW winds 15 to 25 mph and at times gusts over 30 mph will produce considerable areas of blowing and drifting snow. Snow accumulations of 12″ to 24″ is possible especially along the MT/ID/WY state lines.
