BOZEMAN — At the Bozeman Pond, the Montana Science Center is teaching kids STEM in the Park.
“We’re really excited. We have missed people being in our space and so, to be able to take our programming outside, in kind of a safe space, but also enjoy the sunshine and enjoy summer," said Montana Science Center executive director Abby Turner, "it means a lot to see faces and see our friends again.”
The event that takes place at 10 a.m. on Mondays is designed for ages two-and-a-half to nine years old.
“STEM in the Park includes a topical story for that week, a science experiment and then also an activity to take home,” Turner said.
However, the event is not just for kids.
“STEM in the Park is designed for those parents and caregivers that have been inside in the home to come out and enjoy the sunshine, do something that's super-fun and educational together,” said Turner.
Today, the children painted flower pots and planted lavender — and looking ahead, the Science Center has more fun activities planned.
“We will be doing some waters and bubbles activities, we’ll be doing some sound experiments and talking about noise and making instruments that they can take home," Turner said.
"We have a lot, a whole variety of things kind of covering all areas of science planned for the rest of the summer,” she added.
If you’re worried about social distancing, they have you covered.
“We wear masks, the families are on their own blankets, they get their own materials," said Turner. "It’s a fun environment but it’s also super-safe to the guidelines that we need to be.”
